Pass your MOT first time with our top tips!

1 Check all Lights, don't forget the Number Plate Lamps.

2 Check your Number Plates are in good condition and readable (honeycomb backgrounds are no longer permitted).

3 Check the condition of all the Seat Belts, ensure they retract.

4 Top up your Washer Bottle, Power Steering Fluid and Brake Fluid.

5 Check your Tyre Treads and general condition (1.6mm minimum over a continuous band 75% of total tread width).

6 Check the Fuel Cap Seal. If it is lockable, ensure the key is available.

7  Where fitted, check that the Air Bag / ABS / Stability Control / Main beam / Electronic Steering System Lamps all function.

8 Check all the doors open from both the inside and outside.

9 Check the Windscreen for cracks and chips (on the drivers side view, the crack must be contained within a 10mm diameter circle).

10 Check the Wipers clear the screen.

11 Diesel Vehicles (particularly older models) will benefit from being accelerated in lower gears prior to test to clear accumulated soot in the exhaust system.
